Data analysis and modelling with SPSS

Whether you are in research, program monitoring and evaluation or a business analyst, SPSS is an asset. The course introduces the dynamic data management software to first timers and advances its use for users with basic knowledge and user experience. The course assumes a basic level of mathematics and statistics including from descriptive and inferential statistics.  Even without these foundations, will accommodate and give you special assistance as an analytics enthusiast. The structure of the training is as follows:

Introduction to the SPSS software

In this introductory phase, we begin with the outline of the software, sector areas of application, history, installation, versions and navigating in the development environment. Learners will also learn to enter data into SPSS, work with various data types, perform descriptive statistics.

Taking a deep-dive – checking for association between variables

In this module, learners will carry out intermediate analysis of data focusing on t-tests – independence t-test and paired sample t-test, one way ANOVA, linear and multiple regression, correlation, Chi Square Test etc.

Data visualization

As learners gain analysis experience and expertise, they will be introduced to data visualization with SPSS. Focus will be on identifying suitable graphs for every context including bar graphs, pie charts, and scatter plots among others. Manipulations of visualizations will include changing color background of figures, adjusting width of bars for example. Learners will be able to interpret visualizations including understanding fat tail and thin tail distributions as well as generating reports from visualizations.

More advanced topics in SPSS

Learners with key requirements will be taken through more advanced analytics tools including the use of Logistic regression models and related probabilities, survival analysis, generalized linear models and machine learning applications.
